Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 2026

Introduction

LearnScreen ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use the LearnScreen mobile application ("the App").

Data We Collect

Short version:

Your vocabulary and progress live on your device. If you choose, your progress also backs up to your own iCloud so you can restore it after reinstalling. We collect anonymous usage analytics and crash reports to improve the app.

Data stored locally on your device:

  • Your vocabulary learning progress (words reviewed, streak data)
  • App blocking groups and settings
  • Custom words you create
  • Language preferences
  • App settings

Data collected anonymously:

  • Anonymous usage events (e.g. screens viewed, features used) — via PostHog
  • Crash reports and diagnostics — via Firebase Crashlytics
  • Anonymous device identifier — for analytics and crash grouping

Optional: iCloud Backup

If you have iCloud enabled on your device, the App automatically backs up your vocabulary progress (which words you’ve reviewed, learning state) to your own iCloud account so you can restore it after reinstalling or switching iPhones. The backup uses Apple’s CloudKit and goes to your iCloud, not our servers. We never have access to it. You can disable iCloud for the App at any time in iOS Settings → your Apple ID → iCloud → Apps Using iCloud.

This data is not linked to your identity and is used solely to improve app stability and user experience. You can opt out of analytics in Settings → Privacy.

Data we do NOT collect:

  • Personal information (name, email, phone number)
  • Location data
  • Contacts or address book
  • Photos or media
  • Browsing history
  • Which apps you block

Subscriptions & Payments

The App offers premium features through subscriptions (Monthly, Annual) and a Lifetime purchase. All payments are processed securely through Apple's App Store.

Payment data handling:

  • We do NOT have access to your payment information (credit card, Apple Pay details)
  • All transactions are handled by Apple
  • We only receive a confirmation that a subscription is active
  • Your subscription status is stored locally on your device

Screen Time & Family Controls

The App uses Apple's Screen Time API (FamilyControls framework) to block apps on your device. This requires your explicit permission.

When you select apps to block, the App receives only opaque tokens from Apple — not the actual names or identifiers of your apps. These tokens work only on your device and cannot be used to identify which apps you use.

Cloud Storage

By default, all data is stored locally on your device using Apple’s secure storage. If you have iCloud enabled, your vocabulary progress is also backed up to your own iCloud account (via Apple’s CloudKit) so you can restore it after reinstalling. The backup goes to your iCloud, not our servers — we never see your words. You can disable iCloud for the App in iOS Settings.

Analytics & Tracking

We use analytics and crash reporting to improve the app experience:

  • PostHog — anonymous usage analytics (screens viewed, features used). No personal data is collected.
  • Firebase Crashlytics — crash reports and diagnostics to fix bugs quickly.

Both services use an anonymous device identifier. This data is not linked to your identity and cannot be used to identify you personally.

You can opt out of analytics at any time in Settings → Privacy. We do not track you across other apps or websites.

Third-Party Services

The App integrates with the following third-party services:

  • Apple App Store — for subscription management and payments
  • Apple iCloud (CloudKit) — optional backup of your vocabulary progress to your own iCloud account (we never see this data)
  • RevenueCat — for subscription status synchronization (anonymous user ID only, no personal data)
  • PostHog — for anonymous usage analytics (product interaction events, anonymous device ID)
  • Firebase Crashlytics — for crash reporting and diagnostics (anonymous device ID, crash logs)

None of these services receive your personal information. All identifiers used are anonymous and not linked to your identity.

Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
